Deutsches Reich.
January the first 1872 the first stamps from Germany (Deutches Reich) was issued. Values in Groschen and in Kreuzer. In the midlle cirkel of each stamp an eagle with a shield is striked. In the beginning an eagle with a small shield later from june 1872 the stamps were striked with a new eagle with a larger shield. Here named type 1 (small shield) and type 2 (bigger shield).
Some of the values were printed in different colours and the most marked are included here.
This page includes the 6 values in Groschen. The only exception 2½ Gr. was only made in type 2 (bigger shield). Stamps with the value Kreuzer look here.

Type 1. The shield is small. There are no ribbons from the crown at the top over the head of the eagle. The wings of the eagle are smaller than type 2. |
